Recently I was asked:
"Heidi, are you an introvert??"
For the past 40 years, I have never thought of myself as an introvert.
If anything, I described myself as shy when I was younger,
but relatively outgoing and friendly.
but relatively outgoing and friendly.
I still at times find myself feeling "shy" or unsure of the situation I am in.
Imagine my surprise when I did multiple quizzes and they ALL said I was considered an...
Introvert!
Some of the descriptions didn't describe me well and I was confused as to why I was considered an introvert until I discovered a website that made sense.
It described me as:
A Public Introvert & A Private Extrovert
This intrigued me.....so I read on:
"Within your circle of family and friends, you are completely at ease and it's often you who takes the lead to organize outings, dinners, vacations etc.
However, as soon as you are in the public or professional setting you become rather inhibited.
You don't feel in tune with what you would qualify as agitation, rivalry or vainglory and this can sometimes appear to others as a kind of criticism or lack of ambition.
In fact, your pragmatic temperament helps you successfully manage problems as and when they arise. You aren't the kind to calculate your every move and plan every inch of your life, and you find the sphere of family and friends to be much more gratifying to the professional sphere.
You are more expressive in emotional, sensorial and human terms and at home, your organization skills and capacity to oil the family wheels work well and many of your friends and family appreciate your qualities and skills."
It continues on but I was blown away by what I read.
The other quiz I found described me to a T as well, it said:
"Even though you enjoy hanging out with people, sometimes you like to spend time alone in order
to recharge your batteries. It is somewhat harder to get to know you since you don't like to talk about yourself that much to just anyone. But once people gain your trust, they can be 100% sure that you would never ever betray them."
That. Is. Me.
I have always wondered why I can be having fun and enjoying myself in a group setting and
yet be secretly looking forward to having time alone. Even planning time alone.
Makes sense!
And it helps me understand myself.
Helps me understand why it really is important for me to get alone time to recharge
and why I shouldn't feel guilty to do it.
So...how about you?
Are you an introvert, extrovert or somewhere in the middle like me?
