Experimentation: Dry Ice fun!

So I just discovered this youtube channel tonight and I think you will have a blast checking this video out and possibly doing the experiment with your kiddos!

Dry Ice Fun!

Learning Home Ec In The Home: Cooking

Today was the day! I told my 7 year old that I would teach her how to make homemade mac and cheese. I taught her older sisters how to do the boxed kind. However, we have been going back to my roots of making things from scratch. So I didn't want to teach her how to make it from a box. I was just waiting to find a simple easy recipe to teach them all. I finally found it here at Hillbilly Housewife. Here are some pics of the process:

The ingredients needed...

My Chef for the Day...

Stir the milk on medium heat till it comes to a bubble, NOT a boil...

When it comes to a bubble, turn down the heat to simmer and add the noodles. Simmer for 5 minutes.

Then add your cheese, butter and salt. Stir slowly till the cheese and butter melts.

Then pour into a pan. Put in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Ta Dah!

Enjoy!

Homemade Mac And Cheese

So as many of you know, I have been taking my family completely back to "scratch" with our meals. It's a slow process and is not happening over-night. One of our last favorite meals was to find a easy Mac N Cheese recipe to teach the girls. Found one and it was a hit! So here are some pics as well as the recipe:

Here are the ingredients...

Fred is having one of her first lessons in cooking...

Bring milk to a slow boil...

It was so good!!!

I found this recipe at Hillbilly Housewife:

Mac ‘n Cheese
§                       1 quart prepared (reconstituted) nonfat dry milk
§                       2 cups uncooked macaroni
§                       2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
§                       2 cups cheese, shredded or finely chopped
§                       1/2 tsp. salt
Pour milk into large pot and put over medium heat, bringing just to a ‘bubble’ (do not boil hard).
Turn burner heat down to low and stir in the uncooked macaroni.
Simmer over low heat for 5 minutes.
Stir in butter or margarine, cheese, and salt; stir gently so butter and cheese melts.
Pour mac and cheese mixture into a baking dish.
Bake at 350°F for about 30 minutes or until browned on top.
You can add buttered bread crumbs to the top for a crunchy topping if you wish.
This Mac ‘n Cheese dish is so easy to make, you may never again buy one of those boxed mixes!

ENJOY!

Paragraph Written By My Twelve Year Old

This is short, but very sweet, so I had to share:

If I Could Apologize To One Person

It would be my mommy. She works with us kids for 24/7/365 days each year, with out fail. I have not been helping her very much. If there was any way I could help her, I would do it!

Below the paragraph she drew a picture of me reclining on a couch while she washed the floor by hand! Too cute!

Thank you, Miss Mac!
