Throwback Thursday: Sad Evening

I very much remember the evening that I sent this email to my parents. It was six months after my grandpa passed away. It had taken me that long to touch my hiking pack after packing it to go find him up in the hills...The following is an email I sent my parents and my mom's response:

Subject: Sad evening...
I thought I was okay...I really did...
It's been weeks since I cried...
Until today:

I opened my hiking pack and there it was...
Everything I had packed "just because"...
Water bottles, granola bars and even an ace bandage...
Cause he'll be fine, he's always managed.
Little did I know as I packed that night...
I would never have time to say goodbye.
No more "eye twinkles" from across the room...
No more banjo, and no more you...
My heart is broken once again...
I just can't wait to see you again.
I love you grandpa, I always will...

to me
grandpa was so proud of you, the twinkle was his way of expressing it
