Monday Madness: Thankful For God's Protection

Recently we had something scary happen that reminded me how thankful I am that God protects my children, especially when I don't know till later what happened...

Jordyn and Sierra had taken our boys to a small park a mile or so from our house for lunch. Things were going pretty good but after a while, the boys were getting tired, so they had them lay down on a blanket in the shade to relax.

An older lady came along and seemed unusually interested in the boys. She stood there, stared at them and asked their names. Eventually, she moved on and walked down the path.

The girls started getting this weird feeling about the situation. So they kept an eye on her as she wandered about the small park seeming to do things that made no sense.

After a bit, they saw her walk up to a white panel van that was near the park. There were two men in the van and the windows that were in the van were painted over. The lady seemed to be animatedly telling them something. Immediately, Sierra and Jordyn felt they needed to get out of there ASAP.

Typically, if we were to leave the park early the boys would drag their feet or be ornery. Cause what boy wants to leave the park? However, when the girls started getting things together and heading to the car, they didn't even protest. Just obeyed.

When they were almost to the car, Sierra looked over her shoulder and the two men that had been in the panel-van were headed towards where the kids had been sitting on the grass. The girls quietly yelled at the boys to get in the car as fast as they could and buckle up.

As they drove off, the men were exactly where they had been sitting and were looking around for them.

Talk about the scariest thing ever!

The girls got ahold of me when they got safely home and I immediately called the Police and told them what happened. Nothing ever happened of it that I know of.

Just thinking of how God keeps my children makes me so happy that I give them to Him daily. I know He loves them more than I ever could and has their lives planned out perfectly.

Make sure to talk to your children about safety in the community, who to talk to and how to respond in those situations. If your child is old enough to babysit, go through what to do in that situation. One thing the dispatch person said was that it would have helped if she had called 911 as soon as she had got everyone safely in the vehicle with the doors locked because then they could have sent a car over ASAP. And by the time they got home and told me about it, at least 30 minutes had passed.

It also gave me a way to talk to the boys about how important it is to obey instantly. For years, I have practiced using a whistle in public places. When kids are playing on a playground or in an area with lots of voices, mom's voice just becomes one more in the mix. So years ago, I started using a whistle with two codes. One means to simply look at mom for direction and the other is to come instantly no matter what you are doing. I let the boys know I was proud of them for instantly obeying their sisters and that this is why we practice what to do in an emergency so that it comes naturally when we need it to.

Treasure your children, hug them and make sure to give them to the Lord daily!
Have a wonderful week,
Heidi
