Welcome to Monday Madness where I talk about pretty much anything that comes to mind.
From homeschooling to special needs to strange blog posts about silly objects to interviewing a family member...you never know what you might read on Monday Madness!
Enjoy!
Every year is different...
This year is no exception to that and we have a unique 2017 schedule based on the needs of what is happening in our home and with our children.
A little about the kiddos and where they are at:
- McKenzie- Due to her correspondence school jumbling up her freshman year, she is slightly behind and was not able to graduate. She has a bit more to finish.
- Jordyn- In 11th grade and cruising right along. She was able to take a minor break for the summer, but the course we do for the girls to get an accredited diploma requires year round schooling.
- Sierra- In 8th grade and enjoying Pre-Algebra a little more than most people I know!
- Shelby- In 7th grade and putting up with school because she has to and we won't let her off the hook!
- Tony- This is a mixed bag. Tony, as most of you know, has some learning difficulties. As a result, he is all over the place and it would be hard to say what "grade" he is in. Because of his Dandy Walker, you never know how things are going to stick in his brain. We still continue to homeschool him as we believe that we know him and how he learns better than the average teacher. We also know that we need help with making sure that things stick in his head, so he uses the Resource Room at our local elementary school for additional help. It's been a wonderful working experience for us as they respect and encourage us to homeschool Tony.
- Little Mr- In Pre-K at a private school. Last year was very difficult for our little guy. The school he was at did not fit the special needs he has. As a result, he was always upset to go to school and I was always fighting the bureaucracy of the particular school he attended. This year, we are so blessed to have him in a private school with an amazing teacher who truly "gets" him. She understands his needs and is willing to step up to the plate and give him the help he requires.
We school five days a week, year-round, taking breaks for holidays and family vacations. Once they reach highschool, it depends on how their course is going. Many times they need to continue at least half days while taking holiday breaks to stay on top of their course load.
Tony homeschools and goes to the resource room. He goes to the resource room 2.5 hours a day, five days a week.
Little Mr's school is about 20 minutes away in another town. Despite the drive and cost of the school, it is well worth it. He goes three days a week and then I homeschool him the other two days of the week.
This year, it wasn't too hard to figure out our new schedule. Between the girls and I, we came up with ways to meet the different directions we have to head to get the boys to their respective schools.
Hopefully this gives you an insight to what our school year looks like so far for the 2017-2018 school year! We are so blessed to be able to give our kiddos the personal instruction they need while guiding them how to be followers of Christ. Not everyone has the time, strength or ability to do this and it has truly blessed our family.
Till next time...
Have a blessed day and embrace the craziness in your life!
