Monday Madness: Testimony...What Does It Mean?

Welcome to Monday Madness where I will talk about pretty much anything that comes to mind. From homeschooling to special needs to strange blog posts about silly objects to interviewing a family member...you never know what you might read on Monday Madness! Enjoy!

I decided to look up the word "testimony" and this is what I found:

tes·ti·mo·ny
ˈtestəˌmōnē/
noun
  1. a formal written or spoken statement, especially one given in a court of law.
    synonyms:evidence, sworn statement, attestation, affidavitMore
    • evidence or proof provided by the existence or appearance of something.
"his blackened finger was testimony to the fact that he had played in pain"
synonyms:testament to, proof of, evidence of, attestation to, witness to; More
    • a public recounting of a religious conversion or experience.

Why did I decide to look this up? Well, I was thinking about some things we have gone through in the past couple years. And then thinking about things that have happened in the past couple months. One instance stands out to me that happened last month....at the time I was completly thrown by the person's reaction, but the Lord talked to me about it this morning and I decided to share!

A month or so ago, I was in the hospital with my youngest as he went through a tonsilectomy and adnoidectomy. After he came out of surgery, we were supposed to wait an hour or so before being taken up to a recovery room. However, one hour turned into four hours rather quickly. The nurse kept apologizing to me that it was taking so long, she said it wasn't normal.
I honestly wasn't bothered by it as it wasn't her fault and I wasn't uncomfortable in any way. Neither was Little Mr as he was sleeping heavily after his surgery.
At one point though, I was becoming horribly hungry because I hadn't brought anything decent to eat, just my water bottle. I had no money with me to buy a meal and I actually wondered if I might pass out. I sent a text to my friend asking her to pray that I got some food soon. Literally within minutes, the nurse walked into the room and handed me a meal voucher and 2 Fred Meyer's gift cards. I looked at her confused and said, "You don't need to do that!" She said, "You have no idea what we go through sometimes with people when things like this happen. You have been so patient and kind about it." With tears in my eyes, I thanked her as she then told me to "PLEASE go down to the cafeteria and get something to eat, I'll watch your little boy."

This morning, as I was thinking about this incident, I thought about how I did so little and was blessed so much. The Lord showed me that I was giving my testimony in my actions and attitude. My attitude? Yes! This nurse was apparently blown away by the attitude I had regarding the three hour delay in getting a room. And by having a godly attitude, I was able to live out my testimony.

I had never thought about it before, but our attitude makes a huge impact on our testimony. If you claim to be a Christian and then act like a spoiled brat when things don't go your way, what are you saying? If you claim to follow Christ and then make everyone around you miserable because you are not happy with how life is going for you at the time or the people you deal with everyday just frustrate you and you let everyone know....what is your testimony saying?

I'm in no way perfect, just last week I had something come up that caused my "mama bear claws" to come out and I'm ashamed to say that I probably over-reacted. I apologized to the person, but what did my testimony say? Was I showing Christ or having a tantrum?

I want more chances to show the right attitude so that my testimony speaks Christ. How about you?

Till next time...

Have a blessed day and embrace the craziness in your life!
