Welcome to Fostering Fridays!
Our hope is that you will be able to get a taste of what it's like to foster
by reading our experiences and thoughts!
We introduced our littlest guy to hiking this past weekend...
To be honest, it wasn't the kind of hiking we normally do. It could hardly be deemed strenuous in any way and I don't think any of us broke a sweat. However, my sweet family was willing to do something with a little less work out for me since I am still under the weather.
Our little guy went nuts over hiking. He absolutely loved doing it! We actually took three short trips over a couple days. The first one he complained most of the way. He wasn't sure what to think of it. But when we got home, he asked when we were going again! Over the next few days, he talked about it constantly, asking if we were hiking that day. Finally Saturday came and he was about over the moon when we told him we were going for another hike! This time, he relished being in the outdoors and enjoyed stamping through the mud and water.
I think introducing our foster children to new experiences is one of my favorite things about fostering. It is so incredible to see their eyes light up as they experience a new activity. Often times like Little Mr, the first time they experience it, they are full of complaints and constant questions about what we are doing. By the second or third time, they are asking when they get to do it again.
Sometimes it backfires, like when you introduce them to a new food! These kiddos are usually pretty set in their ways when it comes to food due to survival instincts because of neglect. So they are scared to try new things. Or maybe their parents just didn't have a lot of money to try new and different things to expand their palates, so they just aren't used to trying new things in the food area. When it comes to food, we try to be very careful not to push new things.
Here are a couple pics from the weekend hiking/walking we did:
