It's Ba-ack....

Cloth diapering....guess what? It's back. (I'm not sure it ever completely left...) Believe it or not....I am a huge supporter of it! Here's why you may not believe it:

When I was a nanny 20 years ago, I had a family that did cloth diapering and I was NOT impressed. The pins. Ouch. The leakage. Gross. The smell. Blech. The plastic pants that would snap cold urine on your face. DISGUSTING!

So when it came time to diaper my own babes, I went with disposable. I wasn't about to relive THAT horrible experience.

Fast forward 17 years and many, many children to this past August. We were headed into the second month of our first set of newborn twins and the diaper bill was astounding. Not to mention that I was tempted to open up our own personal landfill to put the 600 diapers a month we were going through!

In talking to a friend at church, she said, "Oh Heidi! You have to try cloth diapering!" She was so
Outside collecting Vitamin D....lol
excited and it was contagious! I told her my experience and how I was turned off to doing it. She started telling me about how cloth diapering has changed and what she loved about it. While she was talking, another friend turned around and started talking with us. Hearing them talk about how much easier, less expensive and healthier it was for their babies got me thinking. Then my friend said, "Hey, I have a set of diapers I would love to pass on to you if you are interested in trying." Sure, let's give this thing a whirl!

And guess what....I love it! I even enjoy doing the laundry! Weird, right? Knowing that I am saving some of my hubby's hard earned money makes me happy. Plus knowing that I am not putting chemicals on my babies tushies is a bonus. And frankly...the whole system of cloth diapering is so much easier than it used to be that I am seriously in love with it. It is, honestly, really relaxing to me to do the babies laundry. Adding the cloth diapers to it just makes the relaxing extend another load!

Inside when it's raining...
Up till now we have been only cloth diapering at home, but I am getting braver. After researching and You-tubing other savvy moms, I have come up with a system for being away from home. I will probably continue to send babies and
toddlers to their visits with disposable. I don't want parents to have to worry about my diapering system while they are enjoying their visit. Life is complicated enough, let's not make parents try to figure out Crazy-Foster-Mom's-Diapering-System!

And there you go...I guess old dogs CAN learn new tricks!
